Mt. Savage Historic Structures

The Mt. Savage Museum on Old Row is a restored 1800's miners home. The building is a three story duplex board & batten structure with a stone foundation.  It is set up partly to show how the miners may have lived and in large part is organized to tell the unique story of the Mt. Savage Iron Works, railroad, brick and mining industries. Here you will find a piece of the first iron rail rolled in the USA in the year 1844.

Across the the creek from the Musuem, you will see the old Iron Furnace which produced the iron for the first rolled rail.  You will be amazed at the size of this structure.

The Mt. Savage bank was built in 1902 and remains largely unchanged. Here your will find beautiful mahogany scrolled woodwork, teller's windows encased with glass, two fireplaces and a large vault built with Ramsey brick, a unique brick made only in Mt. Savage.

The Mt. Savage jail opened in 1912, mainly to house the town drunks. The two-celled jail is also the same as the day it opened and was built with Ramsey brick.

The Union Mining Company building is currently being restored and was an important building during the early mining and brick industries in Mt. Savage.
