Karen Lyons

After living in several major cities, and traveling extensively, Karen has now returned to live in the Laurel Highlands where she grew up. She studied Fine Art at the University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada for over two years. She began photographing seriously in 1965, photographing conventions in Washington, DC. She then moved West to sell Fine Art at Cory Art Gallery in Honolulu, Hawaii and San Francisco, California. Karen studied back and white photography at The Fishback School of Photography in Sacramento, California before being side tracked into managing a restaurant on the Oregon coast. She has had cat photos published in Cat Fancy Magazine, won first place for a photo at the Fire and Ice Festival in Somerset, Pennsylvania. She has exhibited at the Art Works in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and Pages and Light at the Georgian Place in Somerset. And for several seasons, she sold her photos at fine art fairs throughout the Mid-Atlantic States. Karen also worked as a framer for Steve Simpson at his art galleries in Somerset and later Donegal, Pennsylvania. She currently has photos on display at The Art Gallery in LaVale. Karen is a member of the Garrett County Arts Council and the Allegany Arts Council.
