Rocky Gap State Park

Enjoy the rugged mountain beauty and solitude of 3,000-acre Rocky Gap State Park, home to Lake Habeeb, a year-round mecca for recreational activities including fishing, swimming, and boating (electric motors only). Hike along Rocky Gap Run as it winds its way through an impressive mile-long gorge with sheer cliffs, overlooks, and a hemlock forest dense with rhododendron. Rocky Gap offers a 278-site campground, 10 mini cabins, four pavilions, two boat ramps, three swimming beaches, boat rentals, a nature center, and a camp store. Fishing in the 243-acre Lake Habeeb, home to panfish, trophy trout, and large and small mouth bass, is excellent and permitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The park provides guests with a wealth of adventure opportunities to enjoy including canoeing, kayaking, rappelling, bicycling, hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking along a number of trails. Seasonal events, weekends Mar to Dec: The Park offers a variety of recreational programs which include Canyon Overlook Hike, an easy hike to the scenic mile long canyon; Hike to the Gap, wonderful view of Lake Habeeb as you hike along the Lakeside Trail; hike to the Aviary and view the raptors and reptiles up close, etc. Meet the Park Naturalist in the Lodge lobby. Other events, such as nature crafts, bonfires, aviary programs, MD Jr. Ranger Programs, are offered. Day Use - Entrance Maryland residents $2 per vehicle weekdays, $5 weekends, and Out-of -state an additional $1. Boating/Fishing - Boats are allowed on Lake Habeeb year round, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Lights after sunset, no gasoline powered engines. Rental boats, including canoes, sit-on kayaks, rowboats and paddleboats, are available in the day use area. The park also offers pontoon boat tours, (service charge/can be chartered) - Call for current rates 301-722-1480 Fishing is excellent on Lake Habeeb - requires a valid Maryland Anglers License for those 16 years of age and older. Swimming - Two beaches, one with lifeguard ( designated times) in the day use area and a 3rd beach in the campground. Bathhouse. Pavilions - Three shelters with electric are available for special occasions. Clover Hill pavilion will accommodate 50. Rate is $50 per day Mon-Fri and $100 each day for Sat-Sun. White Pine and Lakeview will accommodate 125. Weekdays $125 per day and $250 per day weekends. Trails - Rocky Gap offers a variety of trails. Guided hikes originate at the Lodge Lobby, Campground Nature Center, and the Aviary. Mountain Biking. The aviary includes raptors (birds of prey) and reptiles. Birds of prey can be viewed from outside the Aviary at all times, hours vary.
