Great Allegheny Passage

From the tidewater of the Potomac to the forks of the Ohio River — the 184.5-mile Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath and the 150-mile Great Allegheny Passage are linked together to create an unparralleled biking adventure. Together they form the longest non-motorized, hiking/biking trail in the nation.

This world-class experience, 335 miles long, connects Washington, D.C. to Pittsburgh, PA. The two segments join in Cumberland, Maryland, to form what National Geographic Adventurer calls "an American classic." Every year, thousands of cyclists take this ride of a lifetime; each trip unique, exciting, and full of adventures.

Open daily from dawn to dusk, the GAP trail is perfect for short day trips, weekend adventures, or bike the entire 335-mile trip from D.C. to Pittsburgh.
