Whitford Housel, Donna

Donna Whitford Housel is a wildlife artist from Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Growing up in a rural area her days were spent enjoying the nature and trying to replicate it with her colored pencils.

Donna's love of nature is evident in her home and studio that is located on a mountain top in Bedford County and near the Somerset County line.

Most of my recent work has been inspired by the natural world around her. Conservation is a very strong interest for Donna because so many species are disappearing daily from this world never to be encountered again.

Recently Donna was featured Pennsylvania wildlife artist at the Community Art Center of Cambria County. Annually this art center dedicates March for the natural world of Pennsylvania. "Nature It Is In Our Hands" wildlife art exhibit and a Saturday dedicated to educating the public about nature through all sorts of exhibits from many conservation groups as well as a live animal show. This year the live program was about snakes with lives snakes on hand.

Donna is a member of many local art organizations including the Allegany Art Council, Allegany Area Artists Alliance, Bedford County Art Council. In 2008 Donna founded the Greater Cumberland DC 121 of the Colored Pencil Society of America. Donna herself along as many of her friends are colored pencil artists so it seemed the forming a local chapter would benefit our community to promote this medium as a fine art medium.

Donna is also a member of the Pittsburgh Pastel Art League and the Wildlife Artists Association and her art can be seen on their web page www.wildlifeartgallery.net.

Future shows for Donna will be May/June at Laurel Arts in Somerset, Pa. The show "All Creatures Great And Small" and Donna's Co-exhibitor will be Mark Klingler from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh.

Donna is an instructor at Allegany College of Maryland and teaches classes in Cumberland at Cafe Mark's or at her home studio in Buffalo Mills.

"In life, many things change but some remain the same. My love of nature has always been and always will be constant in my life as well as my love of art".
