Cumberland Arts Tour

Start your visit at the Canal Place Heritage Area. You can park in the gated lot in front of the Western Maryland Railway Station. The Allegany County Visitors Center, located on the north side of the building is a great first stop, and a good place to pick-up a free A&E District walking map. While you’re there, be sure to visit the C&O Canal Museum. Next, walk down the bricked promenade to the Shops at Canal Place. If you need a parking token for the gated lot, be sure to ask for one here.

After Canal Place, explore the rich history of Western Maryland with a visit to the Allegany Museum. A short walk to the pedestrian mall at Town Centre will give you an excellent opportunity to enjoy the beautiful architecture in Downtown Cumberland, including the historic New Embassy Theatre, an art deco treasure from the 1930’s. You’ll also find a variety of galleries and retail art spaces, including the Allegany Arts Council’s Saville Gallery.
