An activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, according to state statistics over 500,000 people fish in Maryland each year. The vast majority of those fishing here are visiting from out of state. This is not surprising since Western Maryland is home to many ponds and lakes, ideal for fishing and enjoying some mountain air, beautiful scenery, and wildlife.

Battie Mixon Fishing Hole (canal mile 168) is located near Oldtown, Maryland. The fishing pond is well stocked with one pool reserved for children. Picnic areas are nearby and there is a lot of wildlife to enjoy as well.
