FSU's Department of Music to Present Guitar, String and Percussion Ensembles

The Frostburg State University Department of Music will present an exciting variety of music from three ensembles - guitar, strings and percussion - all in one evening on Wednesday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.The Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Patrick Sise, will perform selected movements from "Carmen" by George Bizet and "Cuban Landscape With Rain" by Leo Brouwer. Next they will perform "Cafe para dos" by Maximo Diego Pujol and "California Breeze" by Andrew York, which will feel like a trip to the beach just by listening. Guitarists performing are Daniel Bedwell, Rasheed Billy, Marshall Borleis, Greg Hays, James Larrimore, Edwin Pitt, Corey Snowden, Grant Stryckning and Paul Zimmerman.The String Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Karen Lau, will present "La peri Fanfare" by Paul Dukas and arranged by Jeff Manookian. They will next play a well-known classical piece, "La Primavera" ("Spring") from "Concerto in Mi maggiore" by Antonio Vivaldi, featuring violinist Hanna Livingston. Next the ensemble will go into a serenade, the second movement from "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, K.525" by Mozart, and lastly, "March" from "The Love for Three Oranges" by Serge Prokofiev, arranged by Jef Manookian. Ensemble members are Violin I: Wesley Mason, Marguerita Macharia and Anna Hilderbrand; Violin II: Hanna Livingston and Erica Duda; Cello: Eric O'Neal; and Double Bass: Elijah Jones.The Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Gary Phillips, will perform "Clapping Music" by Steve Reich, "Lift Off" by Russel Peck and "Stubernic" by Mark Ford.
