FSU's Department of Music to Present Percussion Ensemble

The Frostburg State University Department of Music will present an exciting variety of music from its Percussion Ensemble on Thursday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public. The ensemble, under the direction of Gary Phillips, will perform "Lift Off" by Russel Peck, a concerto for three bass drums inspired by the Saturn 5 rocket; "Overture for Percussion" by John Beck, a percussion work for a large group; "Knock-on-Wood" by Allan Blank, a quartet for four players on wooden instruments; "Shh " by Benjamin Fraley, a multi-percussion duet; "Gainsborough" by Thomas Gauger, a highly melodic, popular percussion quintet in three movements; "Siche," based on a traditional youth dance from West Africa; and "The Chaser and the Chased" by Michael Obermeyer, a modern work for a large percussion ensemble.
