The award-winning Russian String Orchestra presents the classical works of Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Rossini on Saturday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the FSU Pealer Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The program includes Gioacchino Rossini's playful Sonata for Strings, written by the composer at the young age of 12; Sergey Prokofiev's vibrant Visions Fugitives, Opus 22; and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's sweeping Serenade for Strings, Opus 48.Under the creative baton of its founder and music director Misha Rachlevsky, the Russian String Orchestra is composed of some of Russian's finest young musicians. Founded in 1991 as Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, the ensemble previously performed in Frostburg in 2000. The ensemble's warmth and high energy have garnered widespread international acclaim, such as the Diapason d'Or award in France, Critics Choice in London's Gramophone, Critics Choice in The New York Times and the Record of the Year award in Hong Kong. Germany's Frankfurter Allgemein summed it up in its review: "The evening with this ensemble, which boasts to be made up of Moscow's best musicians, completely eliminated any doubts with regard to this statement." Ticket holders are invited to attend a free pre-show lecture at 6:30 p.m. with Misha Rachlevsky, who will discuss the evening's musical selections. The event will be held in the FSU Pealer Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.
