Frostburg State University

Kendall Haven, an internationally known storyteller who shares his knowledge of the cognitive science of story, as well as its structure and architecture, will speak at Frostburg State University's Gira Center room 397 on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public. A West Point graduate who also holds a graduate degree in oceanography, Haven turned to a career as a performing storyteller more than 30 years ago. His experience and research culminated in two books that have revolutionized our understanding of the relationship between the human mind and the elements of effective story structure, "STORY PROOF: The Science Behind the Startling Power of Story" and "STORY SMART: Using the Science of Story to Persuade, Inspire, Influence and Teach." Haven will also speak at the South Cumberland Library on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. as part of its reopening celebration. The FSU College of Education, the Children's Literature Centre and the Allegany County Library System are sponsoring Haven's presentation. For more information, call the CLC at 301-687-3133.
