Mountain Maryland Trails

In the spirit of historic advance and competition between ever evolving modes of transportation, the 3M Ride will feature a race between two of Mountain Maryland's oldest mechanized modes of transportation. The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and the legs of a cyclist. The event will highlight the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP Trail), Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, towns of Cumberland and Frostburg, scenic views of Allegany County, Maryland, and healthy outdoor lifestyle. The Great Allegheny Passage between Cumberland, Maryland, and Frostburg, Maryland, is the only location in the country with 14 miles of side-by-side bike trails and scenic trains. The 3M Ride will be a timed challenge from the WMSR in Cumberland to the Train platform in Frostburg. Teams of 6 riders will depart from Cumberland starting at 8:00 am and continue every 10 minutes. The WMSR Deisel will leave the station at 11:30 am and will be timed. Each team must donate a minimum of $250 to MMT to compete. The start times for each team will be determined by the money raised. This event raises awareness and funding for Mountain Maryland Trails which supports the section of the Great Allegheny Passage in Allegany County, Maryland.
