Start your visit by parking in the covered lot under the Frostburg Public Library. From there, walk up the hill towards the Frostburg Palace Theatre, a wonderful old movie house that shows independent films and hosts live music. Just a few doors up the street, is Mountain City Traditional Arts, a venue operated by Frostburg State University that features traditional art forms from our Appalachian region. Just next door is the General Art Store, which sells art supplies and exhibits local artwork. Another block up, located next to the Princess Diner, you’ll find Dantes, a local bar that presents great live music, and showcases interesting visual artwork. Across the road, Main Street Books is a charming book store that regularly hosts readings by authors and poets from throughout the region.
Be sure to stop at Gunter Hotel right in the middle of Main Street! It is home to a breathtaking 1896 open solid oak staircase and more.
If the literary arts are your thing, be sure to duck your head into the Frostburg Center for Literary Arts, which is located in the recently restored Lyric Theatre Building. For the next couple stops, you’ll want to jump back into your car, and head toward the Frostburg State University campus. On campus, you’ll find the Performing Arts Center, which has three separate performance facilities that host a wide variety of music, dance and theatrical productions throughout the school year.
