April 22, 2025 - CUMBERLAND, MD – Allegany County Tourism has released the 2025 Visit Mountain Maryland Destination Guide, a free travel guide printed annually that serves to inspire travelers to visit Allegany County, the Mountain Side of Maryland.
This year’s guide features 84 full-color pages packed with stunning photos that highlight aspects of the destination’s outdoor economy, arts and culture, and history and heritage, through curated content designed to inspire travel.
“Allegany County’s Destination Guide continues to be an in-demand resource for travel planning to our region,” says Jessica Sainz, Marketing and Sales Manager for Allegany County Tourism. “Each year, our guide provides a new opportunity for us to inspire travelers to plan an unforgettable experience for travel.”
Serving as the ultimate resource for anyone looking to explore Mountain Maryland, the magazine-quality guide features lodging, dining, camping, event, trail, and museum guides. Compelling feature stories include: “Once a Visitor, Now a Local” series, highlighting individuals on their journeys from traveler to community residents and even investors; “Explore Allegany County’s Top Mountain Biking Trails,” highlighting scenic loops and challenging single tracks; “Look Up,” a story celebrating the rich architecture in the downtown; “Explore Our Scenic Byways,” honoring the 25th anniversary of the Maryland Scenic Byways program and the three that traverse the county; “Culture and Creativity in the Mountains,” a 48-hour itinerary and journey through Frostburg and Cumberland’s Arts & Entertainment Districts, and much more.
The cover photo features Mountain Maryland’s trail systems and highlights the wealth of outdoor recreation and access to nature that is wildly sought after and a driving force behind the tourism industry in Allegany County. The photo features Mountain Maryland local, Angie Shaw, mountain biking along the new five-mile Constitution Park trail system and was captured by local photographer, Erin Dettinburn.
“The Trail Starts Here is a motto we adopted a few years ago,” said Sainz. “With internationally recognized recreational trail systems, water trails, hyperlocal foodie trails, and history and heritage routes and passages, it just seemed fitting that this year’s cover would honor a new development and experience in our trail inventory.”
The annual guide is produced by Allegany County Tourism, the official Destination Marketing Office for Allegany County, Maryland, and in partnership with Postern, a full-service Maryland marketing and advertising agency based in downtown Frederick, MD.
A quantity of 70,000 guides will be distributed via mail and made available at local businesses, lodging establishments, Maryland travel/welcome centers, Maryland AAA centers, regional chambers of commerce, and travel centers in target markets within Maryland, Northern Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Washington, DC. The guide is provided to meeting and event attendees as well as to visiting travel media, supplementing Mountain Maryland’s extensive advertising, marketing and public relations campaigns.
