April 16, 2024 - CUMBERLAND, MD – Allegany County Tourism is excited to reveal the launch of their 2024 Visit Mountain Maryland Destination Guide, a free travel guide printed annually that serves to inspire visitors to explore Allegany County, the Mountain Side of Maryland.

“Allegany County’s Destination Guide continues to be an in-demand resource for travel planning to our region,” says Jessica Palumbo, Marketing and Sales Manager for Allegany County Tourism. “Each year, our guide provides a new opportunity for us to inspire travelers to plan an unforgettable experience for business or leisure travel.”

This year’s destination guide is the largest guide to-date for the county, featuring 92 full-color pages packed with stunning photos and curated content that highlights the region’s outdoor economy, arts and culture, and history and heritage. Serving as the ultimate resource for anyone looking to explore Mountain Maryland, the magazine-quality guide is the county’s official travel guide featuring lodging, dining, camping, event, trail, and museum guides.

Other compelling feature stories include:

  • “Celebrating 50 Years at Rocky Gap State Park,” which honors the park’s 50th anniversary;
  • “Climb On - Mountain Maryland Crags Worth the Climb,” exploring rock climbing opportunities;
  • “Unforgettable Rides on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad,” showcasing the scenic railroad;
  • “Explore Our Scenic Byways,” educating on Maryland Scenic Byways in our county;
  • “Move Your Body, Boost Your Spirits,” highlighting the region as a wellness destination;
  • “Let the Good Times Roll,” featuring the Levitt AMP Cumberland Music Series;
  • “Watch Us Grow,” showcasing local emerging food manufacturers;
  • “Mountain Maryland Culinary Trails,” promoting our hyperlocal food trails.

The cover photo features a couple with their dog, recreating at Rocky Gap State Park in the fall.

“We were very strategic with this year’s cover photo,” said Palumbo. “We knew very early in the design phase that we wanted to highlight Rocky Gap State Park on the cover, given its golden anniversary as a state park. We also wanted to showcase fall, since Allegany County was recently named one of the ‘Best Places to Visit in the Fall’ by USA Today 10Best.”

The annual guide is produced by Allegany County Tourism, the official Destination Marketing Office for Allegany County, Maryland, alongside professional service partner Nelson Marketing and Publishing of Cumberland, MD. 70,000 guides were printed and the distribution includes Maryland travel and welcome centers, Maryland AAA centers, regional chambers of commerce, tourism partner businesses, and travel centers in additional target markets within Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Washington, DC.

The 2024 Visit Mountain Destination Guide is available in both print and digital formats. To request a copy, please complete the online request form at www.mdmountainside.com/request-a-guide. A digital version is available on mdmountainside.com.
