Frostburg
Home to Frostburg State University and the state-designated Main Street and Arts and Entertainment districts, Frostburg has the energy of a college town with authentic, Appalachian charm. The downtown features over a dozen restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries, plus unique-to-Frostburg gems such as a record store, independent book store, mercantile, and herb shop.
While exploring the Mountain City, secure a seat for a classic film at the historic Palace Theatre. When thirsty, visit the winery or breweries on Main Street or drop in to one of the local taverns for craft beer or specialty cocktails. Dine al fresco at a handful of restaurants or score the coveted seat in the ’Truman Booth’ at the Princess Restaurant, once occupied by President Truman and his wife Bess, while passing through.
Want to appreciate history? Just take a stroll along Main Street, also known as the ‘National Road,’ America’s first federally funded interstate highway. Visit the Braddock Stone, an early colonial highway marker, named for British General Edward Braddock, in front of the Frostburg Museum. Explore the basement of the Hotel Gunter, which features a replica coal mine, old railcar tracks, a jail cell, and a Speakeasy that housed gatherings during the Prohibition.
