Tackle this rugged five-mile out-and-back trek that winds through a canyon shaded by hemlock, mountain laurel, and rhododendron at Rocky Gap State Park. A footbridge carries you across a gentle stream before the real climb begins, where the trail ascends roughly 1,000 feet in just 2.5 miles to the summit of Evitts Mountain, named after one of Allegany County’s earliest settlers. Bring plenty of water, your camera, and a sense of adventure; this trail rewards hikers with both a challenge and unforgettable views.

Access Evitts Homesite Trail from the Lakeside Loop Trail. There is a parking lot at the entrance of the this trail.

Then, hop on Shortcut Trail until it branches off to the Evitts Homesite Trail.
