Instead, we encourage you to get out an explore the many indoor based attractions that are available for a winter getaway, date night, or family outing in the Mountainside.

Let off some steam at Fore Axes by scheduling an axe throwing lane, booking a golf simulator bay, or just enjoying the high-end cocktails and oversized board games. Fore Axes also has Bocce Ball and Corn Hole boards for guests’ enjoyment.

While the snowy image represents the beauty of winter excursions on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR), you only need to bear the elements from the parking lot to your assigned rail car. WMSR offers a variety of seasonal experiences from the Allegheny Winter Express to Murder Mystery Trains. Snowy rides from the comfort of the interior of a train car, along the snow-covered mountainside, provide the perfect cozy getaway!
3. Enjoy our Taprooms
The Mountain Maryland Tap and Pour Tour trails features a wide range of wineries, breweries, distilleries, tasting rooms and taprooms where you can raise a glass and imbibe in your favorite spirit. Our Mountain Maryland Taprooms are a great place for entertainment with award-winning brews and wines and can be a relied upon for a great live music scene.
4. See a Show
There is nothing like theatre, concerts, or live entertainment, and Mountain Maryland does not disappoint with opportunity to enjoy the arts. The Cumberland Theatre, Embassy Theatre, and Cultural Events Series at Frostburg State University provides exceptional live performances and meaningful interactions with magnificent artists from all over the world! Travel through either one of Mountain Maryland’s Arts and Entertainment districts, in Cumberland and Frostburg, and you will be met with diverse genres of art in our galleries, theaters, and art spaces. Explore the rotating exhibits at the Allegany Arts Council in downtown Cumberland, C. William Gilchrist Museum of the Arts, Ferleman & Company Art Gallery, and FSU Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery. Tackle a class or workshop through Three Stars Arts or gain a new appreciation for the culture of Appalachia with displays at Mountain City Traditional Arts.

Mountain Maryland’s beloved paint-your-own-pottery studio, Mr. Toads Pottery, offers the experience of painting one-of-a-kind masterpieces to bring home and enjoy for years to come. They even offer bring-home-ready ceramic painting kits. Not to mention, their calendar is bursting with hands on events and experiences to truly nurture your creativity.
